KUALA LUMPUR Oct 24 — More than 150 teams from 30 countries, including the United States, Britain, France, Japan and Korea, will participate in the Paintball World Cup Asia (WCA) 2011 in Langkawi next month.
WCA chairman Datuk Mahadzir Khalid said the number of participants for the three-day tournament, which would begin on Nov 10, was also the largest in the tournament”s history.
“The tournament will see over 1,000 paintball enthusiasts flock to Langkawi.
Without doubt, we are creating a history through the organising of WCA 2011, which would become the benchmark for the organisers of such a tournament across the world,” he told reporters at the pre-launch of the tournament here today.
Mahadzir said since the tournament would be held at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre, it would also become the first world-class paintball tournament ever held in an indoor and fully air-conditioned arena.
Inadvertently, this would also improve Langkawi”s potential as the main sports and tourism destination, he said.
The tournament will be patronised by Tunku Panglima Besar of Kedah Datuk Seri Tunku Puteri Intan Shafinaz Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu”adzam Shah.
