KUALA LUMPUR Sept 27 — The gold medal target of the Malaysian contingent to the 26th biennial SEA Games in Indonesia in November, will only be known early next month as the host country has not finalised the final events.
Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) president Tunku Tan Sri Imran Tuanku Ja’afar said, according to SEA Games regulations, any sport offered in the Games must be contested by at least four countries.
“However, the problem is, most participating countries have yet to confirm taking part in several events…thus, we do not know our chances in that sport,” he told reporters here today.
He said the host’s deadline to finalise the number of sports for the Games was Oct 7.
Tunku Imran said several national sport associations (NSAs) had confirmed their respective athletes for the Indonesia SEA Games at the selection committee meeting today.
Among the NSAs present yesterday were petanque, athletics, weightlifting, aquatics, kempo and volley ball. — Bernama
